The drowning of liberty, return of arms, and an impending climate apocalypse
The drowning of liberty, return of arms, and an impending climate apocalypse

The time has come to think again: about capitalism, socialism, and democracy.

History has ended. Francis Fukuyama had declared in 1992 (in his book The End of History and the Last Man) that, with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War, the world would come together hereafter and be at peace with the unhindered globalization of US style capitalism, and promotion of multi-party elections by the US, with the force of its arms if necessary, as the only way to govern a country democratically.

The history of ideological conflict has not ended. In fact, capitalism and democracy are wrestling with each other within the USA. Institutions for the governance of society, the environment, and the economy must evolve further. All countries must be involved democratically, and each must choose its own path from where it is to where its citizens want it to be and, mindful of the needs of others, shape a world with equal freedoms for all citizens.

Let’s think again. I invite you to read my essay, Capitalism, Socialism, Democracy and the End of History in the Outlook magazine.
